Types of chicken

Broiler

It is the variety of chicken, which for years, has been highlighted as the most efficient for large-scale breeding, both for the production of chicken meat and for the production of eggs.
Its appearance is a redondito chicken and busty, with much meat and white feathers or very light brown. This aspect is basically given to them because they are fast-growing birds, which has allowed a reduction in production costs, thus facilitating the consumption of this meat, healthy and with low levels of fat, to a large part of the population.
Until the 1930s or 1940s, when it began to generalize its breeding, much of the population in the world had very difficult access to protein consumption due to its high costs. Thus we can affirm that the broiler chicken breed has contributed in a great way and efficiently to the nutrition of the world population.

Certificate

We speak of a certified chicken when the parameters established for its rearing and fattening are monitored and controlled by an external body, which certifies that all the rules have been followed, thus allowing to obtain a homogeneous production, of high quality and with total safety.
The aspects monitored by the certifying company are very variable, depending on each type of bird, as standard birds, as well as ecological or barnyard birds can be certified; but basically aspects like: the origin, the feeding, the density in the farm and the days of life are watched.
It is a seal of quality and extra added value for the final consumer.
In Catalonia, since 2009, in a commitment to quality and differentiation, all producers associated with ASSOCAT (Associació d'Empresaris d'Escorxadors i Comerç d'Aus i Conills de Catalunya), including ALIMENTBARNA, They decided to produce exclusively a certified chicken, the " Pollastre Groc Català ". Thus, all yellow chicken produced in Catalonia incorporates a differentiating element and bears this seal of quality.

Of corral

The birds or poultry are characterized by being of a slow growing breed, they need more time than the rest of breeds to develop. This gives special characteristics to its meat, which becomes more fibrated, more muscular, with less fat and a more intense flavor. In short, a meat of higher quality.
These are birds that are raised with a semi-intensive system, that is, farms with lower density, generally with access to the outside, and with a vegetable diet consisting basically of cereals such as wheat, corn, barley and alfalfa.

Free range

Free Range is the chickens that in their breeding and growth can have contact with the outside, during a certain time each day. Thus they have access to grazing fields where they can dig the soil, chop insects, seeds and minerals that are found in the ground.
This breeding technique is valid both for chickens intended for meat and egg laying hens, and is directly linked to the conception of animal welfare, since it tries to ensure that the behavior of the animal during its breeding is as wild as possible and close to your natural activity

Ecological

Ecological chickens incorporate several of the characteristics discussed above. They are of slow-growing race, and in addition, they are certified by a body that monitors that all the rules are met so that we can call it Eco.
The breeding of an ecological chicken is characterized by everything that surrounds it or uses it for its growth, it is in turn ecological, because we can only use this nomenclature if the whole process complies.
Thus, the basic characteristics of an organic chicken are: a feed with organic-based feed, 100% vegetable. The birds are not medicated, in the farms and artificial light is applied and they have low density of animals, with access to the outside and grazing parks where they can chop grass and insects.
These breeding conditions make the meat darker, firmer and with less saturated fat. In short, a higher quality and tastier product is achieved.
ALIMENTBARNA is certified as an ecological slaughterhouse.
